French Horn Player, 1815
oil on canvas; 21 x 18 inches
Clements Collection

Trained by her father, the noted painter Giuseppe Bacigalupo, Rosa achieved modest fame in her own right. This portrait of an unidentified horn player or composer, with the initials "A" and "C" on his cravat, is accurate in its representation of a late eighteenth-century French horn. Further research is underway to determine the sitter's identity, and the piece of music in his right hand.
