Faculty Carrels

Carrels are designed to facilitate research and provide a quiet atmosphere for study. Due to their limited number, carrels are only available to Main Campus teaching faculty.

Please submit a completed Faculty Carrel Application. A study carrel will be assigned when space is available. In the event that your key is lost, a $100 replacement charge will be added to  your library account for the cost of creating a new key.

Only Main Campus teaching faculty may obtain a Lauinger Library faculty carrel space. Medical and Law faculty, as well as visiting researchers and scholars, are ineligible. Library carrel privileges are nontransferable. Teaching and research assistants, visiting researchers, students, colleagues, friends or family members should not use your carrel. Faculty carrels can be shared by up to three faculty members.  If a carrel is shared, it is the responsibility of carrel partners to determine a schedule for usage of the carrel.

Every May, all faculty carrel holders will be asked to renew their carrel assignment for another year.  Instructions will be emailed out in advance of the renewal period.

Library carrels are not soundproof. Any conversation in your carrel can be heard in surrounding carrels.

Please do not use your carrel as an office. Coffee pots, hot plates, electric heaters and other equipment of this nature are prohibited.

You may keep library materials in your carrel if they are properly checked out. Any noncirculating library materials (periodicals, reference materials, newspapers, etc.) or library materials that have not been checked out, will be removed if found in your library carrel.

The library is not responsible for the loss of personal materials or library materials charged out to you. For the safety of your materials and personal possessions, the carrel door should be locked at all times.
