The Sodality was composed of Catholic students in Georgetown's undergraduate school. Organized at least as early as 1810, it was the first student society formed at Georgetown.

Most likely a scene from the Mexican War. The uniforms of the Union troops are more similar to those used in the Mexican War. Fortress in the Civil War tended to be massive earthworks, rather than small stone fortresses. From the Roosevelt Civil War Envelopes Collection.

Georgetown University acquired the Washington Dental College, the first dental college in the city, in 1901.

Chemistry Lab in Healy Hall: From the earliest days at Georgetown, science education was seen as an important function of the university. Chemical experiments were performed at Georgetown as early as 1813.

  • Manuscripts Collection   Digitized manuscripts represent only a small fraction of the library’s manuscript holdings of over 1,200 separate collections. However, several important collections of eighteenth- and nineteenth century manuscripts are now available online.

  • University Archives   This community includes a selection of photographs from the Archives detailing the University's traditions and history, as well as the University's historical newspaper, The Hoya.

  • Georgetown University Art Collection   This digital collection includes a selection of items from the University’s large and diverse holdings of paintings, antique furnishings, sculpture, fine prints, and objects d’art. The images presented here provide access to many pieces which not on public display, including the Roosevelt Civil War envelope collection and selections of French anti-communist propaganda posters.

The site includes more than two hundred episodes from three television series moderated by Dean Krogh between 1981 and 2005.

  • AJCU Photograph Collection   Sponsored by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) Library Deans, this digital project provides access to archival images documenting important aspects of Catholic higher education.
