Gelardin Workshop: Planning for Video Production


10:00-11:30am, June 3, 2015
CoLab, Gelardin New Media Center

This workshop will walk participants through the most important phase of video production, which is "pre-production" (the planning phase). Different types of shotlists, scripts, and video clips will be shown during this time to give you a feel of how planning is actually applied to a completed video project. The instructor will also demo and explain best practices for a basic video production equipment set-up. Register for this workshop here.

Gelardin Workshop: Intro to VoiceThread

This workshop will cover an overview of VoiceThread, a web-based tool which allows users to have asynchronous conversations around uploaded media files. During the session participants will learn how to create, edit, comment, collaborate, and share VoiceThread projects. Register for this workshop.

Gelardin Workshop: Intro to Photoshop

Participants will be introduced to the Photoshop workspace as well as basic Photoshop concepts including layers, managing text and making selections. Participants will also be exposed to the common types of image file formats and how they are used in web and print environments. Register for this workshop.

Gelardin Workshop: Hands-on Video Production Techniques

This hands-on workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to learn how to set up a professional, yet basic production shoot. This includes learning how to capture quality audio and video footage using both DSLR and HD video cameras, as well as touching on the fundamentals of cinematography and lighting techniques. Gelardin Workshop: LinkedIn Makeover

During this workshop participants will learn the best practices of creating a LinkedIn profile that will attract potential employers and expand one's professional network. Participants will also have a chance to get a professional headshot taken in a studio setting. The headshots will be shared digitally with participants 1-2 weeks after the workshop. Gelardin Workshop: Discover & Develop Your Online Brand


9:45am-4:00pm, June 12, 2015
Dubin (Room 156)

In this day-long workshop, participants can reflect on their personal brand and develop--or rebrand--their online presence. Staff from the Career Center will discuss personal branding in relation to building an online presence, using real-world e-portfolios and LinkedIn profiles. Gelardin New Media Center staff will provide instruction on the basics of launching a website or portfolio using popular online platforms. Security, privacy, and copyright concerns will also be addressed. Light refreshments will be provided, but lunch is on your own. See below for a tentative schedule:

Gelardin Workshop: Intro to InDesign

Participants will be introduced to desktop publishing and the InDesign interface, and will learn how to import and format text, create frames, place text and images into frames, manipulate and organize objects in layers, manipulate text and images into basic layouts, and export projects as PDF files. Having completed the workshop, participants should be able to create basic documents such as brochures, pamphlets, and posters and prepare them for printing. Register for this workshop.

Gelardin Workshop: Online Data Visualization Tools

This workshop will cover various online data visualization tools, including Tableau Public and Piktochart, that require little to no coding. Participants will learn how to use these tools to create more engaging and interactive charts, maps, and diagrams with data sets.  Register for this workshop.

Adobe Premiere Pro is a professional video editing application that is used to combine video and audio clips, music, graphics, titles, and still images to produce finished sequences. This workshop will teach participants the basic process of creating a project, importing assets, basic edits to audio and video, and keyboard shortcuts. Register for this workshop.

Gelardin Workshop: Intro to 3D Modeling

This workshop will be a hands-on workshop using the on-line 3D design tool, Tinkercad. Tinkercad is "an easy-to-use tool for creating digital designs that are ready to be 3D printed into physical objects." The workshop will cover the basic workplace layout, shapes, and tools of the application. The workshop will show how to construct simple objects and introduce how to construct more complex objects. Gelardin Workshop: Video Editing with Final Cut X


10:00am-12:00pm, July 15, 2015
Picchi Lab, Gelardin New Media Center

This workshop will provide an overview of Apple's professional video editing platform Final Cut Pro X. Participants will learn how to ingest footage, make basic cuts, add titles, add secondary audio, and export a final movie to a sharable file format. Participants should have some basic experience with video editing before registering for this workshop (for example, iMovie). Register for this workshop here
