Gelardin Workshop: Intro to 3D Printing

This workshop will explore the underlying technologies, survey some of the 3D modeling software freely available for creating objects; discover valuable resources, services, and communities for 3D printing on the Web; show examples of 3D printed objects; and review the 3D printing capability in terms of what printers and materials are available to Georgetown University patrons in the Gelardin New Media Center.

Gelardin Workshop: Planning for Video Production

This workshop will walk participants through the most important phase of video production, which is "pre-production" (the planning phase). Different types of shotlists, scripts, and video clips will be shown during this time to give you a feel of how planning is actually applied to a completed video project. The instructor will also demo and explain best practices for a basic video production equipment set-up. Register for this workshop here.

This workshop will cover various online data visualization tools that require little to no coding. Participants will learn how to use these tools to create more engaging and interactive charts, maps, and diagrams with data sets. Register for this workshop.

Gelardin Workshop: Intro to 3D Scanning

This workshop will provide hands-on experience with the MakerWare for Digitizer Interface and the Makerbot Digitizer. The Gelardin staff will show the methods for how to calibrate, set up for printing, and scan objects with the Digitizer. There will be a review of best practices for scanning using with Makerbot Digitizer and how the Gelardin Center staff will work with patrons to scan 3D objects for printing or editing.

Gelardin Workshop: Online Tutorials Using Explain Everything

Explain Everything is an easy-to-use iPad app that lets users annotate, animate, and narrate explanations and presentations to create dynamic interactive lessons and tutorials. During this session participants will learn how to record on-screen drawing, annotation, and object movement in addition to capturing audio and video via the iPad microphone and camera.

Gelardin Workshop: Intro to VoiceThread

This workshop will cover an overview of VoiceThread, a web-based tool which allows users to have asynchronous conversations around uploaded media files. During this session participants will learn how to create, edit, comment, collaborate, and share VoiceThread projects. Register for this workshop.

Participants will be introduced to the Photoshop workspace as well as basic Photoshop concepts including layers, managing text and making selections. Gelardin Workshop: Intro to InDesign

Participants will be introduced to desktop publishing and the InDesign interface, and will learn how to import and format text, create frames, place text and images into frames, manipulate and organize objects in layers, manipulate text and images into basic layouts, and export projects as PDF files. Having completed the workshop, participants should be able to create basic documents such as brochures, pamphlets, and posters and prepare them for printing.

Gelardin Workshop: Intro to Adobe Premiere

Adobe Premiere Pro is a professional video editing application that is used to combine video and audio clips, music, graphics, titles, and still images to produce finished sequences. This workshop will teach participants the basic process of creating a project, importing assets, basic edits to audio and video, and keyboard shortcuts. Register for this workshop.

This workshop provides participants with techniques for retouching photographs. It will also build on the intro course, going into more depth about layers and filters and creating images and profiles for various outputs. Register for this workshop.

Gelardin Workshop: Hands-on Video Production Techniques

This hands-on workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to learn how to set up a professional, yet basic production shoot. This includes learning how to capture quality audio and video footage using both DSLR and HD video cameras, as well as touching on the fundamentals of cinematography and lighting techniques. Participant will expand on their knowledge from the Introduction to InDesign course by learning advanced text formatting, advanced layouts including master pages, creating gradients, adding effects, advanced image placement with Photoshop, package and export projects as PDF files. Having completed the beginner and advanced workshops, participants should be able to create basic documents such as brochures, pamphlets, and posters and prepare them for printing.

This workshop will provide an overview of Apple's professional video editing platform Final Cut Pro X. Participants will learn how to ingest footage, make basic cuts, add titles, add secondary audio, and export a final movie to a sharable file format. They will be shown specific Photoshop tools that that will help them make choices about how to retouch their professional studio portrait. The tools and methods in Photoshop will be specific for retouching studio portraits, especially in dealing with different shadows, outfits, facial blemishes, and skin tones.
