Media Conversion & Scanning

The Gelardin New Media Center provides resources to scan images and convert VHS tapes or audio cassettes to a digital format. 

 

Video Conversion

Media that is protected by copyright cannot be duplicated without express written permission from the copyright holder. Please refer to the Reformatting Media - VHS / DVD / Streaming webpage for additional information.

  • Converting VHS or Mini DV to Digital File
    • Converting a VHS or Mini DV tape to a digital file requires the use of Editing Room #6 located in the Gelardin New Media Center. To use this editing room please adhere to the following steps.
  • Converting VHS to DVD
    • Before coming to the Gelardin New Media Center to convert your VHS to DVD, we recommend you purchase a blank DVD-R and schedule a "media conversion" consultation.
    • Once you arrive to the New Media Center on your scheduled date and time, a staff member will take you to a video dubbing station to begin the conversion process.

*Please note, the Gelardin staff member providing your consultation will only be present for the set-up of your project. We require patrons to be present to monitor all phases of media conversion.

Audio Conversion

  • Converting Audio Cassette to Digital File
    • Converting an audio cassette to a digital file requires the use of Editing Room #6 located in the Gelardin New Media Center. To use this editing room please adhere to the following steps.
