We are currently installing new doors in the stairwell in Lauinger Library. During this time, visitors will not be able to use landings that are under construction, either to enter that floor or pass through en route to another. We encourage visitors to use the elevators, although the stairwell may still be used to access floors that are not under construction. Landings under construction should only be used in the case of an emergency.

Professor Bernard Wagner Book Endowment Fund

The Professor Bernard Wagner Book Endowment Fund was established in 1972 by colleagues and his former students on the occasion of his retirement. Professor Wagner taught English at Georgetown University for 41 years. He was a charter member of the Library Associates.

The May 1972 issue of Georgetown Today notes that at a surprise dinner in his honor he was:

"presented with a color TV set and given a hand-lettered parchment scroll in testimony of the esteem in which his students and friends hold him.

Making the presentations was William Peter Blatty (C'50), author of the best-selling novel, The Exorcist. Mr. Blatty studied under Professor Wagner and thanked him in the novel's acknowledgements 'for teaching me how to write' . . . University Librarian Joseph E. Jeffs (C'49) also announced Dr. Wagner's appointment as the Library's first Honorary Bibliographer in English Literature."

Professor Wagner died in January, 1980. His endowment is used for materials in English literature.
