The Interlibrary Loan Service fee for books and articles is $25 for corporate/nonacademic institutions and $15 for academic and nonprofit libraries. Public libraries are not charged for books, but are charged $15 for articles. For international orders, an additional $10 will be charged for shipping and handling. Please contact the Interlibrary Loans Office for payment using IFLA Vouchers (preferred). An invoice will follow loaned materials and photocopies. Nonpayment will result in loss of service. Georgetown University Interlibrary Loans reserves the right to receive payment in full before material is shipped. We do not offer a rush request service, because all interlibrary loans take the same amount of time to search and process.
Books
The loan period on an ILL book is seven weeks with no renewal. ILL books are shipped through the U.S. Postal Service. If you wish to have a courier pick up your ILL, we can contact you once the book request is processed and ready. The library borrowing the item is responsible for its safe return. In the event that an item is lost or damaged, the borrower is responsible for its replacement costs. The following materials do not circulate: items located at the School of Foreign Service library in Qatar, Special Collections, Theses, Government Documents, Periodicals, Microforms, VHS, CDs and DVDs.
Articles
Articles can be delivered electronically via Ariel/Odyssey, fax or mail. Articles longer than 50 pages cannot be copied due to copyright restrictions.
Copyright and Fair Use
The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the Law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproductions. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of that order would involve violation of the law.
