Library Welcomes New Head of Collections, Research and Instruction

The Library is thrilled to announce the hire of Ryan Johnson, the new Head of Collections, Research and Instruction.

Johnson comes to Georgetown from the University of Mississippi, where he served as the Head of Information Services for the past 10 years. Prior to his work at Mississippi, Johnson was Social Science Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian and later Head of Humanities/Social Sciences Public Services at Washington State University and Information Services Librarian at Georgia Southern University.

Here at Georgetown, he will direct the Collections, Research and Instruction department, which houses most of Lauinger Library’s professional librarians, in addition to other staff. The department is dedicated to partnering with faculty to support their research and teaching, selecting resources for the Library’s collections, providing reference assistance and instructing users in research methods.

Johnson holds a BA and MA in history from Georgia Southern and Villanova Universities, respectively, and an MLIS from St. John’s University. In 2003, he served as the President of the American Association for History and Computing.
