Kate Dohe joined the staff of Lauinger Library on May 6 as Digital Services Librarian in the Library Information Technology Department. Kate will be planning, expanding and communicating about DigitalGeorgetown, our institutional repository services, and our digital collections and content. Before coming to Georgetown, Kate worked as Digital Librarian at University Readers, an academic custom publishing company, where she was responsible for growing their digital library content and connecting their professor clients to content that aligned with their course objectives. Kate earned her BSEd. in Speech and Theater Education from the Missouri State University and her Master of Library Science from the University of Hawai’I at Manoa. In her spare time, Kate enjoys knitting and crochet, running, yoga and home brewing.

Gelardin Partners with CNDLS on TLISI 2013The Gelardin New Media Center worked very closely with the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) to host the 2013 Teaching and Learning with Technology program of the Teaching, Learning and Innovation Summer Institute (TLISI) from May 21-23. This year’s conference focused on topics relevant to Georgetown’s new Initiative on Technology-Enhanced Learning (ITEL). We explored the online delivery of course content, facilitating interactions and designing assessment methods that make the most of technology-enhanced learning environments. Welcome Erin Pappas!Erin Pappas joined the staff of Lauinger Library on May 28 as Librarian for Social Sciences and European Languages. Erin will be in the Research & Instruction Department and serve as bibliographer for Russian & East European Studies, Slavic Languages, German and Communications. Prior to joining us, Erin worked as an instructor and librarian at various institutions across the greater Chicago area. She holds a joint undergraduate degree in Russian and Anthropology from Reed College, an MS from the University of Kentucky in Library and Information Sciences, and an MA from the University of Chicago in Linguistic Anthropology. Her diverse areas of interest include issues of general semiotics, gender and sexuality studies, foodways and cuisine, the Russian Realist novel, early modern European history, language ideologies and pie.

Summer HoursAs of June 3, the Library is on summer hours. Throughout the summer, Lauinger will be open from 8 AM to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 8 AM to 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. Blommer Science Library will be open 8:30 AM to 9 PM Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 6 PM on Friday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM on Saturday and noon to 8 PM on Sunday.
