Friday Music Series: Margaret Bonds & Langston Hughes: A Musical Friendship

Join the Library Associates and the Georgetown Music Program for the 2016 Opening Friday Music Series Panel, Luncheon and Concert.

The panel, featuring Dr. Anna Celenza, T. E. Caestecker Professor of Music, Georgetown and Dr. Tammy L. Kernodle, Professor of Music, Miami University in Ohio will take place at 10:30 am in the Murray Room, Lauinger Library, 5th floor. The panelists will discuss the concert's companion exhibition Margaret Bonds & Langston Hughes: A Musical Friendship. A luncheon will directly follow the panel discussion.

The concert will take place at 1:15 pm in McNeir Auditorium, New North Hall and will feature Marlissa Hudson, soprano and Marvin Mills, pianist. The annual collaboration between the University Library and the Music Program will feature Margaret Bonds' musical settings of texts by Langston Hughes, including some unpublished and until now presumed lost works, followed by a Q&A with the performers.

The Georgetown University Music Program’s Friday Music Series features acclaimed artists in free concerts on Fridays at 1:15 p.m. at Georgetown.
