Interlibrary & Consortium (WRLC) Loans

  1. Check HoyaSearch.  If the book is available at Georgetown, select Georgetown Request. The average delivery time for Georgetown items is 1 day. If the item is not available at Georgetown, but is available at a consortium library, select Consortium Request. The average delivery time for Consortium items is 2-3 days. You can also travel to the library which owns the item with your GOCard to access the book.
  2. Request the book through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). (Average delivery time: 10 days)
If the material you need is not available at Georgetown or Consortium Libraries, place a request through Interlibrary Loan. After you place the request, ILL staff will attempt to find an available copy of the item from another library. If the item you require is unavailable, ILL staff will let you know.
  1. Check the journal title in Journal Finder or HoyaSearch first. If the desired journal volume and issue is not available, go to step 2. If Lauinger, Woodstock, or Blommer Science Libraries have the journal but full text is available in hard copy only, please go to step 2 and request the article through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
  2. Request the article through Interlibrary Loan (ILL):

If an item you need is located at another Georgetown Library, follow the appropriate link below to obtain the material.

Placing a HOLD on items from Georgetown University's Main Campus, the Law Libraries, and Off-Campus Shelving:

  • To have a book held for you at a circulation desk, click the "Georgetown Request" link in the HoyaSearch item record.
  • If the item is part of our circulating collection and not checked out, staff will retrieve the item for you and hold them at your preferred library's circulation desk for 7 days. If the item is checked out, this will trigger a recall (see below).
  • If you need the item immediately, you may find it faster to retrieve the item from the library shelves yourself. While library staff retrieve items throughout the day, expect a 24 hour turnaround time. Deliveries between campus branches are made once in the morning per business day. Requests for items from Off-Campus Shelving can take up to 48 hours.
  • If another patron has retrieved an item from the shelves before library staff can page the item for you, your hold will remain on the item, but the patron with the item in-hand will be allowed to check it out for 4 weeks. Please note that, in this instance, the 4 week borrowing period applies to all patrons, including those with extended borrowing privileges (e.g. graduate students, faculty, etc.).

Placing a RECALL on items from Georgetown University's Main Campus libraries and Off-Campus Shelving:

  • All borrowers may request items that are checked out to another patron. Before recalling, please check that if there is an available copy in the Consortium that you can request instead (this may get the item to you faster).
  • To recall an item, click on the "Georgetown Request" link when you're viewing the record for the item you want.
  • You will be notified by email when an item is recalled from you. If you have just checked the item out, it will not be due until you have had it for 4 weeks. If you have already had it for 4 weeks or longer, you will have 7 days to return the item. Please note that this applies to all patrons, including those with extended borrowing privileges (e.g. graduate students, faculty, etc.).
  • Items recalled to be placed on Course Reserves must be returned in seven days, regardless of how long you have had the book checked-out.
  • If you still need the recalled item after you have returned it, place a hold on it or check HoyaSearch to see if there is another copy available.

RECALL Fines:

  • Recall fines apply to all borrowers and are $5 per item per day. There is no maximum limit on recall fines.

RECALL Notices:

  • Recall notices are automatically generated and e-mailed. You should regularly check your HoyaSearch Account on the Library's website to check for recalls on your items in case the recall notification e-mail ends up in a spam folder.

RECALLS during Summers and Intersessions:

  • Materials are subject to recall at ANY TIME. If you plan to be out of town for an extended period of time, please return borrowed items or arrange with someone to receive notices and return recalled material for you. Main Campus libraries are open during intersessions, so recalled items may be due any time the libraries are open.
