Mount Zion FUBS Cemetery: A Story of Black Displacement and Georgetown Gentrification

My project is a historical study of the Mount Zion Cemetery located on Q St in Georgetown. I created this project to examine the specific displacement Black Americans experienced in DC, and follow the stories of those who owned and upkept the cemetery. I wanted to not only highlight the significance and impact of the cemetery while bodies were still being buried there, but also the mistreatment and lack of care afterwards as a way to make a statement about current DC specific erasure.
