Page of Theodore Schneider, S.J. Missal

Among Woodstock Theological Library’s manuscript collections is a missal that was written approximately in 1740. The scribe of the missal was Rev. Theodore Schneider, S.J., who was born at Geinshem, Germany April 7, 1703 and entered the society in September of 1721. Between 1737 and 1738, he taught grammar, rhetoric, and philosophy at a Jesuit school in Mosheim and later at Heidelberg. In 1740 Fr. Scheider was sent to Goshenhoppen, Pennyslvania to start a mission for "scattered Catholics in the backwoods." After a year in Goshenhoppen, he was sent back to Germany. He returned to his mission in 1745 and remained there until his death on April 7, 1703.
