For Your Studies

Student with laptop and books in the library.

The Library is here to help you get the most out of your classes. We can help you get the readings and software you need, find the information to help you master any subject, and develop multimedia skills to make your assignments pop.

  • The Library is home to more than 3 million books and almost 1,000 scholarly databases. Find what you’re looking for in HoyaSearch, our main library catalog.
  • We offer a contact-free book pick-up service. Request books in HoyaSearch, and when your request is ready, you will receive an email notice with a link to schedule your pickup. There is a request limit of 5 outstanding items at a time for students.
  • Writing a research paper? Our librarians can help you find credible sources, track your citations, and request the materials you need. Schedule a research consultation to receive one-on-one help with any research project.
  • Many professors will place class readings on reserve at the library. Pick up physical books and media items at the Service Desk. Electronic readings and streaming media will be on your course’s Canvas page.
  • Subject-specific software, from ChemDraw Professional to ArcGIS to MatLab, are all available for student use in the library. Many programs installed on Library lab computers are also available for download and installation on personal computers; visit the Georgetown University Webstore to browse the full list of software available for free for Georgetown students, faculty, and staff. The Library has also identified a list of Recommended Software for Instructional Continuity, available for free or at low cost on a trial basis.
  • The Library is a perfect place to study. Different areas of the library are designated for quiet, semi-quiet, or group study, and group study rooms with LCD monitors are also available to facilitate collaboration.
  • Our Research Guides are curated collections of information that highlight the major databases, journals, statistical sources, and more to get you up to speed on any topic from climate change to sports management. We also create guides for specific classes, how-to guides to aid in developing valuable skills, guides to notable Library collections, and video tutorials on a variety of topics.
  • Work with unique primary source materials and other artifacts from the Booth Family Center for Special Collections. Contact Booth curators for more information.
  • The Library’s digital scholarship services allow students to leverage digital technology to ask new research questions. Email our Digital Scholarship Services Unit staff for assistance with topics such as text mining, data management and visualization, multimedia production, and digital project planning.
